ABSTRACT

Patients undergoing a surgical procedure are under the care of numerous health care practitioners, so communication among all health care team members is key to properly caring for a patient with fibromyalgia. It is essential that all health care practitioners who interact with the patient be educated on the many aspects of this chronic and debilitating disease. A comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach needs to be used 100% of the time during the patient’s hospitalization to emphasize his or her compromised condition. Through attentive and proper perioperative care, the risks of major pain relapses for the patient with fibromyalgia will be minimized.
